For January 2024 several of us will be participating in the “30-Day 6 Degrees of Separation Coach4aday Challenge”-today we learn about my neighbor JEF LAMBDIN and Kevin Costner.

I hold a subjective view of the street I call home, which boasts an array of intriguing individuals and historical residences. Among these residents is Jef Lambdin, my neighbor who resides just across the street. Interestingly, Jef is a professional mime. It’s quite ironic, and not everyone can “speak” of having a mime as their neighbor.

Rules of the Challenge

Many people have heard of this concept. The notion of six degrees of separation grew out of work conducted by the social psychologist Stanley Milgram in the 1960s. It then became a 1993 film named appropriately “Six Degrees of Separation.”

Organizing a six degrees of separation challenge involves creating a chain of people, each connected to the next by a mutual acquaintance. The goal is to demonstrate that any two people in the world can be connected through a chain of six or fewer personal connections.

How to Participate

Here is how to participate:

  1. Identify the First and Last Person in the Chain.
  2. Go thru the connections with a brief explanation.
  3. Do this daily for 30 Days posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge

Day 9-Jef Lambdin to Kevin Costner

Six Degrees of Separation: Jef Lambdin-Wool E. Bull-Miles Wolff-Thom Mount-Ron Shelton-Kevin Costner

  1. Jef Lambdin-For 17 years Jef was part of TOUCH-which was NC premier mime theater-He then created the mascot Wool E. Bull for the Durham Bulls Baseball Club.
  2. Wool E. Bull is the mascot for a team that was originally owned by Miles Wolff.
  3. Miles Wolff purchased the Durham Bulls in 1980 for $35,000 he had a minority owner named Thom Mount who invested $5,000
  4. Thom Mount was the former head of Universal Pictures and a native of Durham NC and he met Ron Shelton who had a movie script called Bull Durham. He decided to produce that into a film.
  5. Ron Shelton eventually was chosen to direct the film and choose the Durham Bulls and their stadium Durham Bulls Athletic Park as the setting. He selected Kevin Costner to star in the picture.
  6. Kevin Costner was the lead in the movie Bull Durham that many say is one of best sport movies ever made.

Here is a short video of Jef’s work.
