#Exclusive May 19

I anticipate that someone may view this post on why championship teams need to be EXCLUSIVE and selective as fodder for not supporting diversity. When you view the word EXCLUSIVE and all of its different definitions you may drift to that conclusion.

What my view is that championship teams are EXCLUSIVE in that not everyone qualifies to belong. You have to embrace the attributes that make up that teams culture. If you don’t fit the bill the team needs to remain EXCLUSIVE and exclude those that do not meet the standards.

What you do not do is exclude anyone because of social status, sexual orientation, ethnicity, race, creed or color. It might be a better choice of words if we used selective vs. EXCLUSIVE.

The best teams, groups, organizations, and businesses understand that they need to have people on the team that have the ability, have the aptitude, and have the willingness to embrace the culture of the team.

Leaders create culture. Culture creates the behavior of the organization. The behavior gets you the results. That quote is attributed to Brian Kight.

The best teams have great culture which requires a sort of EXCLUSIVE mindset on who can be the best teammates for the system your organization deploys.

Patrick Lencioni says it best about The Ideal Team Player. They are humble, hungry, and people smart.

Those ideal team players come in all shape and sizes but not everyone is qualified to do all three. You have to be EXCLUSIVE to be elite and the great news is elite leaders are all different.
