#Decisions May 6

I have a friend named Brad Allen who gets paid to make DECISIONS refereeing professional football. The rules of NFL football permit challenge flags to be thrown on some DECISIONS referees make.

Brad Allen

In his chosen career as a professional official he has reached the pinnacle. We all can tell stories of people we have encountered who have achieved great success and suddenly change the way they interact with others. That is not the case with Brad and that is a tribute to his values.

This month the #Coach4adayChallenge is to share Life Lessons learned from others. I want to share what a NFL Referee has taught me.

(L-R) Brad Allen and Dan Kenney

Brad has modeled a life lesson on how to live a purposeful life. He has done that not just for me but hundreds of others.

The lesson he taught me is the DECSION he makes every day on how to treat people. Brad has a fantastic habit of always looking to make “Everybody Feel Like Somebody”. He has achieved much in his professional career but has remained humble and appreciative to those that helped him along the way. I know for a fact that he does a lot without seeking recognition. He realizes that many people seen and unseen clear the path for any success we achieve in life. Not only does he understand that he appreciates and embraces it.

Every career has its own unique set of DECISIONS that leaders must make. For Brad his professional DECISIONS are often made where millions can see them. The ability to make those type of officiating choices at the highest level comes thru hours of studying, practicing, and constantly striving for improvement.

The DECISION on how to treat people can be summed up best by the “Golden Rule – Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” .

Brad Allen thanks for making the right DECISION on how to live a purposeful life and inspiring others, including me to do the same. Nobody is throwing the challenge flag on that DECISION you made.
