Today’s #Coach4aday post is on the value of belonging to a CIVIC organization.
Maybe there is some debate, but my perception is American Society has been changing. Our country has seen increased mobility, changes in family structure, and the rise of digital technologies. These have impacted the perceived value of belonging to a local community organization. According to data from the General Social Survey, the percentage of Americans who say they belong to a local community organization has decreased from around 40% in the 1970s to around 20% in the 2010s.
Many clubs that have been impacted including the Jaycees Lions Club and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Each one has a mission to serve their community in some fashion and they is being diminished across the country. Not every club in every city and town is declining but it is a trend nationally. Proud of my Kiwanis of Robeson/Lumberton Club for its growth over past year.
Making social connections is important in many different ways.
