Today’s contribution to the 30-Day Musical Instrument Coach4aday Challenge is on the BOUZOUKI.

This instrument is a long-necked lute with its origins coming from Greece. The bouzouki emits its sounds thru a round wooden body, with metal strings arranged in three or four double courses over a fretted fingerboard.

Like many of the world’s instruments often times adaptation of the original takes place. According to an article written by Tony Bacon for Reverb that took place in 1968 with Andy Irvine. The new sound can be compared to a mandolin.

The Irish version would be based on the more popular Greek variety with eight strings in four pairs—the kind of layout a 12-string guitarist would be familiar with.
