For September I am participating in the 30-Day Literary Lesson Coach4aday Challenge with the focus today on making changes to my life with BABYSTEPS.

Most 30-Day Challenges fall into the self-improvement category. Weight loss, exercise, reading, and diet are just a few examples. In the book “Atomic Habits” by James Clear, Chapter 13 is dedicated to concept of starting out with activities that take two minutes or less. They become small baby steps.

Literary Lesson from Atomic Habits

For self-improvement to stick you need to create a new habit. Start out with that new habit being 2 minutes or less to complete.

Chapter 13 in this book is titled “How to Stop Procrastinating by Using the Two Minute Rule”.

Here are some takeaways.

“Habits can be completed in a few seconds but continue to impact your behavior for minutes or hours afterward.”

“A habit must be established before it can be improved.”

“The Two-Minute Rule states, ‘When you start a new habit, it should take less than two minutes to do.’”

So begin any 30 days challenge by dedicating just 2 MINUTES each day to start. An example that is easy to follow is read a book. Begin by reading that book for 2 MINUTES each day.

You might be surprised that repeating something daily creates an automatic habit.
