For the month of October 2024 several of us are participating in the 30-Day World Series Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we attempt to learn something about some aspect of the World Series. Today I am focusing on an MLB player named BABE who has a number of World Series records.

George Herman “Babe” Ruth, often regarded as the greatest baseball player of all time, revolutionized the sport with his unprecedented power hitting, setting numerous records, including 714 career home runs. A larger-than-life figure both on and off the field, Ruth became a cultural icon, leading the New York Yankees to multiple championships and transforming baseball into America’s favorite pastime. He also appeared in (10) World Series with (3) being with Boston Red Sox and (7) with the NY Yankees.

World Series 30-Day Challenge Guidelines

Like previous challenges there are no hard and fast rules to participate. There are a few suggested guidelines.

  1. Each day in October 2024 write about the World Series
  2. Share at least one fact about the event or the participants.
  3. If so inclined use the hash tag #Coach4adayChallenge on social media platforms

Here are three memorable facts about Babe Ruth’s World Series records:

  1. First Player to Hit Three Home Runs in a World Series Game – Babe Ruth was the first player in World Series history to hit three home runs in a single game, a feat he accomplished twice: once in Game 4 of the 1926 World Series and again in Game 4 of the 1928 World Series, both against the St. Louis Cardinals.
  2. 29 1/3 Consecutive Scoreless Innings as a Pitcher – Before becoming famous for his hitting, Ruth set a World Series pitching record in 1916 while playing for the Boston Red Sox, throwing 29 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings. This record for most consecutive shutout innings stood until 1961. He also pitched a 14-inning complete game allowing 1 hit in 1916.
  3. Most Total Bases in a Single World Series – In the 1928 World Series, Ruth collected 16 total bases over four games, thanks to his three-homer performance. This remains one of the most dominant individual offensive performances in World Series history.
