For December 2023, several of us are participating in the “30-Day ANATOMY Coach4aday Challenge.” My choice today is the ACETABULUM

During this challenge, the participants select a bone or muscle in the human body, providing details about its location and physiological significance.

How the Challenge Works

  1. Identify one anatomical part of the body.
  2. Describe what its purpose is.
  3. Describe where it is located.

Identify Your Choice

The Acetabulum is actually the fusion of the three pelvic bones: the ilium, ischium, and pubis. You can find a great image of it at this link.

Purpose

It is a cup like indenture that holds the femoral head of the longest bone in the body the femur. It allows us as humans to walk, run, and move around freely.

Location

We have two of them with each one located on the lateral face of our hipbone. For those that have had hip replacement surgery you probably are familiar with the location.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
