For December 2023, several of us are participating in the “30-Day ANATOMY Coach4aday Challenge.” My choice today is the FIMBRIATED FOLD.

During this challenge, the participants select a bone or muscle in the human body, providing details about its location and physiological significance.

How the Challenge Works

  1. Identify one anatomical part of the body.
  2. Describe what its purpose is.
  3. Describe where it is located.

Identify

The Fimbriated Fold of the tongue if you want a technical definition is fringe-like mucosal projection. l

Purpose

The fimbriated fold of the tongue doesn’t seem to have a clear job, and we’re not sure why it’s there; it’s just a normal variation in how tongues can look, and it doesn’t seem to have a specific purpose in the body.

Location

It is located on the ventral surface of the tongue near the lingual frenulum.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
