November 2026 several of us are going to take on the 30-Day Idiom Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we will identify a ‘Saying or Expression” and explore what its origins are. For Day 8 we explore the expression “TAKE SOMEONE UNDER YOUR WING”

Many of the expressions we use every day have fascinating histories, cultural connections, and lessons that remain relevant today. The goal of this challenge is to explore those.

A handful of the idioms that might be featured this month come from observing nature. That is the case with today’s choice of “Take Somebody Under Your Wing“. Birds when their chicks first hatch will put them under their wing to protect them from predators and the elements.
