#Expectations April 14

April 2026 will take a slightly different approach to the 30-Day Challenge. Each day of the month, I’ll be participating in the 30-Day Tai Chi Coach4aday Challenge. What will be different this time is that my daily posts won’t be limited to that day’s exercises—I want the freedom to share more spontaneous and wide-ranging thoughts along the way.

I will still include the focus of each day’s Tai Chi routine, but much of what I write may explore topics far removed from exercise. Just as Tai Chi is designed to improve flexibility, I hope my writing reflects that same sense of openness and adaptability each day. For Day 14 my focus is on EXPECTATIONS.

“Tai Chi” 30 Day Challenge

Searching online for a 30-Day program brought me face to face with lots of options but I have chosen a plan led by Dr Alan Potts PT. You can download the schedule I am utilizing at this link.

It looks like this.

Challenge Guidelines

  1. View the daily video and mirror what you see.
  2. Complete all 30 daily exercises

April 14th-Expectations

This morning I read something very profound attributed to Morgan Housel about Expectations and Happiness.

His quote is below:

Expectations move faster than outcomes. Happiness is rarely about what we have; it’s about whether we have more than expected. Keeping your expectations in check is one of the hardest and most underrated life skills.

The examples I can share about expectations are endless but here are three.

  1. Hitting a long, beautiful drive on a golf hole and EXPECTING to birdie the hole only to three putt and bogey.
  2. The expectations that fans have the day of a press conference announcing a new college coach-One example was the expectations UNC Football Fans had on December 11, 2024 and the outcomes UNC Football Fans were dealing with on November 29, 2025
  3. Expecting people to celebrate you in a specific way when something special happens can often lead to frustration that overshadows your happiness and joy. Recognizing that others have different priorities and levels of awareness about important moments in your life can ultimately elevate your sense of happiness.

Somewhere in the world, someone wants to trade places with us. That should remind us to value what we often take for granted and not be expecting more.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
