#Walking March 23

March 2026 marks the 75th consecutive month that Jeff Neelon, Jaclyn Donovan, and I have completed a 30-Day Coach4aday Challenge. For this milestone month, we’ve chosen to focus on teaching. Each day for 30 days, we will share one lesson, principle, or insight gained from the previous 74 challenges—calling it the 30-Day Coach4aday Teach It Challenge. For each of us we believe that our own personal growth increases when we share it.

I have a friend named Jeff Eisen who like me retired from a long career in athletic administration and coaching. He has a daily habit of WALKING in nature. Jeff also has a successful consultant practice and is deeply involved with the NCAA Division II World Series in Baseball.

His habit, along with the environment where he practices it, offers numerous scientifically backed health benefits.

“Teach It” 30 Day Challenge Guidelines

In past challenges, we invited others to join us, though participation has been limited. This month, the three of us will return to January 2020—the very beginning—and move forward to the present, reflecting along the way and sharing a life lesson or insight from any month with one another.

Here is how we will do it.

  1. Identify the principle, insight, or lesson from a previous 30-Day Challenge-identify the Challenge also.
  2. Teach that lesson to each of us.
  3. Share the conversation by posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge

Day 23-Walking in Nature

Jeff Eisen is a highly intelligent professional who has earned a Juris Doctor and spent more than 25 years serving as an NCAA Director of Athletics. While it’s unclear whether he has explored the researched benefits of walking in nature, those benefits are well documented and supported by scientific evidence.

Just going for a walk in any natural setting can positively impact you.

Here are some benefits according to an article found on BestLifeOnline.com.

  1. Improve your overall mood
  2. Increases in memory
  3. Increases in self-esteem

Another way to elevate a daily walk is to disconnect from technology entirely and complete it in silence—a practice known as silent walking

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
