This February 2025, several of us are participating in the 30-Day Philosophy Coach4aday Challenge. Each day, we choose a quote or concept from a philosopher, past or present, and share it with others. Participating in this activity is actually sharing wisdom with others. My philosopher choice today is NICCOLO MACHIAVELLI.

Today’s post for me provided enlightenment and a dose of humility. For decades I have heard the label Machiavellian used in political banter. Never realized it was tied to a man from the Italian Renaissance named Niccolo Machiavelli.
Researching today’s philosopher, it became clear to me exactly what Machiavellian tactics are especially related to politics. It is somewhat embarrassing to admit that for three plus decades I attributed that trait in a more positive vain. That is beauty of 30-Day Challenges they help me learn and grow.
Philosophy 30-Day Challenge Guidelines
Like previous challenges there are no hard and fast rules to participate. There are a few suggested guidelines
- Identify your choice of philosopher, and, if necessary, offer up a brief bio on that individual.
- If you need help here is a link to some famous philosophers
- Provide the quote or concept that is attributed to this philosopher.
- If sharing with others use the #Coach4adayChallenge
February 10th Philosopher–Niccolo Machiavelli
Machiavelli authored a book five centuries ago titled The Prince. If someone would attempt to summarize what this book is all about it would simply be “men in power”. Like many of the other selected philosophers I spend some time reading excerpts from his writings. Goodreads had many wonderful quotes, and my favorites are listed below.
“The first method for estimating the intelligence of a ruler is to look at the men he has around him.”
“It must be considered that there is nothing more difficult to carry out, nor more doubtful of success, nor more dangerous to handle, than to initiate a new order of things“
Niccolo Machiavelli-from The Prince
