#GrandSlam October 30

For the month of October 2024 several of us are participating in the 30-Day World Series Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we attempt to learn something about some aspect of the World Series. Today I am focusing on a GRAND SLAM that was also a walk-off.
Sometimes, while revisiting World Series history, a new moment unfolds that’s destined for the record books. On Friday, October 25, in Game 1 of the 2024 World Series, Freddie Freeman of the LA Dodgers etched his name into Fall Classic lore with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning. Not just any homerun but a grand slam.
World Series 30-Day Challenge Guidelines
Like previous challenges there are no hard and fast rules to participate. There are a few suggested guidelines
- Each day in October 2024 write about the World Series
- Share at least one fact about the event or the participants.
- If so inclined use the hash tag #Coach4adayChallenge on social media platforms
October 30th-Grand Slam
Doing a 30-Day Challenge that has you looking backwards for significant historical moments often means ignoring the present. What happened in Game 1 of the 2024 World Series will now go into the record books.
Having a walk off win a World Series game is rare. There have been 11 title-clinching walk-off victories in World Series history before October 25, 2025, including nine hits and two home runs. Freddie Freeman made it 12 and it was the first Grand Slam Walk Off.
Freddie Freeman hit the 22nd Grand Slam in World Series History. Here is a link to the list. Please note the list does not include Anthony Volpe homer in Game 4 of 2024 World Series.
