For the month of September 2024 several of us are going to take on the 30-Day Periodic Elements Coach4aday Challenge. The concept is to show the symbol of one of the 118 elements and give a few facts about it. Today I have chosen O.

O is the symbol for Oxygen.

Elements 30-Day Challenge Guidelines

Like previous challenges there are no hard and fast rules to participate. There are a few suggested guidelines.

  1. Each day in September 2024 show the symbol for one particular element.
  2. Share at least one fact about that element
  3. If so inclined use the hash tag #Coach4adayChallenge on social media platforms

September 15th-O

Here are three facts about the element Oxygen.

Essential for Life: Oxygen is crucial for most forms of life on Earth. It is required for cellular respiration, the process by which cells convert glucose and oxygen into energy, water, and carbon dioxide. Oxygen makes up about 21% of the Earth’s atmosphere, making it available for animals and plants to breathe.

Most Abundant Element in the Earth’s Crust: Oxygen is the most abundant element in the Earth’s crust, comprising about 46% by weight. It is primarily found in compounds such as silicates, oxides, and carbonates, making it an integral part of rocks, minerals, and soil.

Forms Ozone (O₃): In addition to its common diatomic form (Oâ‚‚), oxygen also exists as ozone (O₃) in the atmosphere. The ozone layer, found in the Earth’s stratosphere, plays a vital role in absorbing and blocking the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation, protecting living organisms from its damaging effects.

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
