For the month of August 2024 several of us are going to take on a 30-Day County Coach4aday Challenge. The simple concept is to share a fact about a county in the US. My focus is going to be on North Carolina, and today I am selecting MONTGOMERY County.
Montgomery County was carved out of Anson County in 1779. The county gets its name from an American Revolutionary Major General named Richard Montgomery. He was killed in the Battle of Quebec. Montgomery was born in Ireland and follows a trend that many North Carolina counties have a namesake that was not from the area or state.

Here are some facts about Montgomery County
North Carolina is not alone in total 18 states have counties named Montgomery.
A rural and wooded region, Montgomery County’s woodland attracts hunters, fishermen, and other outdoor enthusiasts. It is also home to much of the Uwharrie National Forest—approximately 50,000 acres.
Montgomery County is home to several historical and artistic sites. A 600-year old Indian mound known as the Town Creek Indian Mound was the first North Carolina State Historic Site. The mound was once a place where various Indian tribes of the Pee Dee region gathered, hosted feasts, and discussed tribal matters.
