For January 2024 several of us will be participating in the “30-Day 6 Degrees of Separation Coach4aday Challenge”-today we learn about CATHERINE ASHE and Ethan Peck.

In the 1880’s was a young girl called Catherine Ashe who hailed from Aunascaul, Ireland who immigrated to the US. She arrived in Rochester, New York and later married a young local of English descent called Sam Peck. Catherine was also related to Thomas Ashe.

Many people have heard of this concept. The notion of six degrees of separation grew out of work conducted by the social psychologist Stanley Milgram in the 1960s. It then became a 1993 film named appropriately “Six Degrees of Separation.”

Organizing a six degrees of separation challenge involves creating a chain of people, each connected to the next by a mutual acquaintance. The goal is to demonstrate that any two people in the world can be connected through a chain of six or fewer personal connections.

How to Participate

Here is how to participate:

1. Identify the First and Last Person in the Chain.
2. Go thru the connections with a brief explanation.
3. Do this daily for 30 Days posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge

Day 6 Catherine Ashe to Ethan Peck

Six Degrees of Separation-Catherine Ashe-Sam Peck-Gregory Peck-Gregory Peck-Stephen Peck-Ethan Peck

1. Catherine Ashe comes to the US in the 1880’s from Ireland and marries Sam Peck
2. Sam Peck and his wife had a son named Gregory Pearl Peck. Shortly after his birth his dad Sam died and his mom Catherine moved him back to Ireland.
3. Gregory Pearl Peck and his mom later moved back to the US where he became a pharmaceutical chemist and in 1915 married Bernice May Ayres and they had a son named Elrod Gregory Peck.
4. Gregory Peck had several children including Stephen Peck-He also went on to can claim as an award-winning actor including an Oscar for best actor in 1962-“Kill a Mockingbird”
5. Stephen Peck had a son named Ethan Peck
6. Ethan Peck is an Actor who has recently played a young Dr Spock in Star Trek Movies
