Over a 12 hour period of time I had to interact with my granddaughter’s TEDDY bear, learned about the reason TEDDY Roosevelt was included on Mount Rushmore, and really got into TEDDY Pendergrass singing some lyrics we all should listen to.

The TEDDY bear involves an incident involving Theodore Roosevelt in Mississippi that turned a Brooklyn shop keeper into a product innovator.

In 1902 President Theodore Roosevelt went to Sharkey County in the Mississippi Delta on a hunting trip. Holt Collier an renowned bear hunter was hired to be TEDDY’s guide. A bear was caught but President Roosevelt would not shoot it. I will let you read the story here.

The media had a great time poking fun at the President Roosevelt.

One man saw these cartoons and had an idea. His name was Morris Michtom and he owned a candy store in Brooklyn NY. Morris wrote to Roosevelt to ask his permission to make a small bear cub and call it “Teddy’s Bear.” Roosevelt agreed but was to very doubtful it would amount to much. Shocker some Presidents make an error in judgement.

In 1903 due to the popularity of the TEDDY Bear Morris and his wife Rose founded the Ideal Toy Company

So why is TEDDY Roosevelt on Mt. Rushmore? There are a few stories that have circulated and I found this link on StraightDope.com to be pretty fascinating.

When you read about the role that John Gutzon Borglum had with Mount Rushmore you understand why TEDDY is one of the four.

Finally I get to a song called “Wake Up Everybody” I listened to the on recent ‘drive. It was by the Harold and The Blue Notes featuring drummer TEDDY Pendergrass on lead vocal.

Here are the lyrics

What resonated with me were these lines of the chorus.

The world won’t get no better
If we just let it be, na, na, na, na, na, na
The world won’t get no better
We gotta change it, yeah
Just you and me
