There is beauty in the game of basketball when two players are in SYNCH. One example is when they execute the give n’ go. This connection or SYNCH with each other can be practiced and executed with an emphasis on the correct principles or fundamentals.

Principles of the Give n’ Go

I am convinced that every group or team can work in SYNCH but just like a basketball team they have to practice the correct principles. Teams have to constantly ask themselves questions on how they are doing. Groups or teams sometimes have to be in SYNCH at different speeds, slow and fast. It all requires executing principles.

In his book When, the author Daniel Pink describes three principles that have to exist for a team, tribe, or group to get in SYNCH.

When by Daniel Pink

Those three are that they SYNCH to a boss, they SYNCH to the group, and they SYNCH to their hearts.

He poses three questions that every team needs to frequently visit and answer.

1. Do we have a clear boss? The boss can be a person or some external standard. The boss has to have a role that is clear and one that everyone can direct their focus on.

2. Does the team foster a sense of belonging. That sense of belonging enriches individual identity and deepens affiliation.

3. Does the team activate an uplift-does it create the sense that people feel good about themselves and are doing good for others?

It doesn’t matter if it is a basketball team, civic organization, church, corporation, medical team, political campaign, or neighborhood watch. When that team, tribe, or group is in SYNCH with the principles it is beautiful to watch.
