For day three of the 30 Day Album #CoachadayChallenge I selected a 1999 recording from Santana that was called SUPERNATURAL. What a treat listening to the album from front to back.

Santana put out a lot of great albums and SUPERNATURAL just might be their best. It was the eighteenth studio album by an iconic Latin rock band who are led by Carlos Santana on guitar. It was released on June 15, 1999, on Arista Records. SUPERNATURAL set, broke or tied so many records including 10 Grammy nominations and remarkably it won eight of them. To put that in context the only other album to garner 8 Grammy’s was Michael Jackson’s Thriller. That is rarefied air to be compared to Thriller.

Awards for SUPERNATURAL were also accompanied by record sales. Some 25 million copies of the album were sold. The back story of SUPERNATURAL is that five record companies told Santana to hit the streets that his sound was a relic. The group had been around since the 1960’s and performed at Woodstock. Clive Davis at Arista Records thought otherwise.

Songs on Supernatural

Starting out you need to realize that this album is a collaboration of talent. Performers as Eric ClaptonLauryn Hill, Dave Matthews, and Rob Thomas of the band Matchbox 20 are all part of the discography. Here is the line-up

Fourteen songs that all carry Carlos Santana signature guitar sounds. Like many fans I love The Calling, Smooth, and Primavera the best. Do yourself a favor and give SUPERNATRUAL another listen from front to back. It will be a Smooth, Latin, journey you will enjoy.
