#Stuff November 17

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

The idea for today’s post was prompted when I engaged in a conversation with our mail carrier. She shared with me the challenges of her job which included weather, dogs, weekend deliveries for Amazon, and what to do with a nixie (30 Day Vocabulary Challenge). I just figured I would share with readers some STUFF.

In no particular order here it goes just some random STUFF.

  • During the recent warm spell, my gas pack heater has not been utilized. I pondered how long Natural Gas has been used to heat homes. I did not know the following:
    •  In about 1000, B.C., the famous Oracle at Delphi, on Mount Parnassus in ancient Greece, was built where natural gas seeped from the ground in a flame.
    • The first commercialized natural gas occurred in Britain.
    • In 1785, the British used natural gas produced from coal to light houses and streets.
    • In 1816, Baltimore, Maryland used this type of manufactured natural gas to become the first city in the United States to light its streets with gas.
  • There are hundreds of rivers in the United States that flow from South to North
    • Here is a list including the French Broad River in NC/TN
  • There are Diamond Mines in the United States -I did not know that
  • The #1 Selling Item at Wal-Mart is bananas
  • Each region of the country at Thanksgiving has a favorite side dish-Had no idea that Alaska goes for a Hash Brown Casserole
  • In 1960 the most popular toy of the year was the Etch-a-Sketch
  • President George W. Bush was first American President to run a marathon-He finished the 1993 Houston Marathon in a time of 3 hours, 44 minutes, and 52 seconds.
  • In 2012 a study said that only .5 of 1% of the American population has completed a marathon.

So that is the end of my STUFF.
