#SongLyricSunday-I Need A Lover-November 22

This week our host Jim Adams for Song Lyric Sunday for has given us the prompt of Fiancé/Husband/Lover/Wife. I do know that if I choose to write about my wife I have to mention her KALON (30 Day Vocabulary Challenge).

The song I choose became a hit in Australia on an album not released in America called “A Biography”. Riva Records became John Mellencamp label (then known as John Cougar) for his 3rd studio album called John Cougar. The song was titled “I NEED A LOVER” and it soon became a hit in the US. The song was written by John Mellencamp.

In 1979 Pat Benatar covered the song on her debut album “In The Heat Of The Night”. Her album went on to be platinum.

On his inspiration for writing “I Need a Lover”, Mellencamp said: “The song’s about a friend of mine who goes to Concordia College. When that song was written, he was pretty sad. He was . . . livin’ in his bedroom. I told him, ‘You got to get the hell out of the house!’ He’d say, ‘Man, if I only had a girl, she’d make me forget my problems.’ I just said, ‘Well . . . ’”

One of the neat thing about this song which is about five minutes long is the 2 minutes and 30 second musical intro before the vocals. Here are the lyrics.
