#SongLyricSunday December 20

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

This week our host Jim Adams for Song Lyric Sunday has given us the prompt to write about the following shapes Circle/Polygon/Square/Triangle.

Here are the “rules”:
• Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it contains the prompt words or not.  If it does not meet the criteria, then please explain why you chose this song.
• Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due.  Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be.
• Make sure you also credit the singer/band and if you desire you can provide a link to where you found the lyrics.
• Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song.
• Ping back to this post or place your link in the comments section below.
• Read at least one other person’s blog, so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process.
• Feel free to suggest future prompts.
• Have fun and enjoy the music.

When bloggers write we attempt to tell a story. When I read this weeks prompt the first thing that popped into my head were the lyrics from the song I choose.

I’ve got a story, ain’t got no moral
Let the bad guy win every once in a while

The song is WILL IT GO ROUND IN CIRCLES. When I think of the year 2020 this song could be its theme song.

It was written by Bruce Fisher in collaboration with the Billy Preston. Preston also recorded it in on his seventh studio album in 1972 called “Music Is My Life.

Bruce Fisher also worked with Preston on a favorite song of mine Nothing from Nothing. I love the opening lyrics of that song also.

Nothin’ from nothin’ leaves nothin’
You gotta have somethin’ if you wanna be with me
Nothin’ from nothin’ leaves nothin’
You gotta have somethin’ if you wanna be with me

Fisher also crafted the tune “You Are So Beautiful”. That song became one of biggest and best selling records of Joe Cocker‘s career. In addition to Joe Cocker other artists who have covered this hit include Ray Stevens, Kenny Rogers, and Al Green.

I want to get back to “Will It Go Round In Circles”. This was Billy Preston first #1 hit. He would get a second with aforementioned “Nothing from Nothing”. If you were a fan of 1970s music you could not help loving Preston’s oversized afro and his organ playing abilities.

The lyrics to Will It Go Round In Circles are below:

I am actually going to post two videos of this song. The first one I could not resist. It is a video of some of the great movers and shakers of the music industry all doing their thing with the song in the background. How of these iconic people can you identify?

The second video is from a 1973 episode of The Midnight Special a TV show produced by Burt Sugarman. They show often got hosted by Wolfman Jack.

I hope our story at the end of 2020 doesn’t have the bad guy winning.
