Challenging myself today to listen to an album that got released in 2021. Decided to give John Mayer’s album called SOB ROCK a listen.

John Mayer can maybe best described as a soft rock artist but I implore you to listen to a live blues album he released in 2005 called Try. That album got nominated for a Grammy in the best rock category.

Bio on John Mayer

Mayer was born in Bridgeport CT in 1977 and his early influences included Michael J Fox’s guitar in Back to the Future along with Stevie Ray Vaughn. He dropped out of college after two semesters and moved to Atlanta GA where he got his start. After making an impression at the SXSW Music Festival in 2000, he was signed to Aware Records.

John’s first full-length album was called Room for Squares. It included “Your Body Is a Wonderland,” That song won Mayer a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance in 2003.

Many of my female friends consider John Mayer a heartthrob and apparently at one time so did Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer AnistonKaty Perry and Taylor Swift.

Sob Rock

Sob Rock is the eight studio album for John Mayer. I liked the songs but they all kind of have the same feel to them. According to press releases this album was mostly conceived during the pandemic when Mayer could not tour.

Here is a list of the songs on the disc.

My two favorite tunes include Last Train Home and I Guess I Just Feel Like.
