July 2026 several of us are going to take on the 30-Day America at 250 Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we share something about America’s unique and quirky history. It can be about a place, an event, or person. Today it about long stretch of a US Interstate Highway that is SERVICE FREE.

Traveling on the U.S. Interstate Highway System gives drivers the confidence that gas stations, restaurants, and lodging are usually just an exit away. In urban areas, exits may be spaced as little as two-tenths of a mile apart, while in rural areas they are often about every 10 miles. However, there are two notable Interstate highways with exceptionally long stretches where travelers will find few or no services, making advance planning especially important.

Day 23-Interstate Highways-No Service

There are two different stretches of the US Interstates many seasoned truck drivers are aware of that will be Service Free.

Longest distance between actual Interstate exits:
The record belongs to Interstate 80 in western Utah, where there are 37.4 miles between Exit 4 (Wendover) and Exit 41 (Knolls) across the Bonneville Salt Flats.

Longest Interstate stretch with no services (gas, food, lodging):
The better-known record is Interstate 70 in Utah between Salina and Green River. This 108-mile stretch crosses the remote San Rafael Swell. There are a few exits to dirt roads or isolated local roads, but no gas stations, restaurants, or lodging for the entire 108 miles. It is widely regarded as the longest service-free stretch on the Interstate Highway System.
