For the month of August, I am participating in the 30-Day Phone Apps Coach4adayChallenge. Today the focus is on home surveillance/security application called RING.

The goal each day is to explore a different application each month that I could use or experiment with on my iPhone or desktop.

August 22-Ring-Home Security Application

Ring is a brand that offers a range of home security products and services, primarily known for its video doorbells and security cameras. Ring was founded in 2013 by Jamie Siminoff and gained significant popularity due to its innovative approach to home security. In 2018, Amazon acquired Ring, further boosting its market presence.

The core of Ring’s offerings revolves around smart home security devices that utilize internet connectivity, motion detection, and video streaming to help homeowners monitor their property remotely.

How the Ring App works

The Ring app is designed to allow you to easily control and monitor your Ring home security devices from your smartphone. Here’s how the Ring app typically works:

  1. Download and Install: First, you need to download the Ring app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) and install it on your smartphone.
  2. Account Setup: Once the app is installed, you’ll need to create a account if you don’t already have one.
  3. Adding Devices: After logging in, you can begin adding your Ring devices to the app.
  4. Live View and Notifications: Once your devices are set up, you can use the app to view live video feeds from your cameras and video doorbells. You’ll receive notifications on your phone when motion is detected or when someone rings the doorbell. Tapping on a notification will take you to the app to view the event.
  5. Two-Way Communication: If you have a video doorbell, you can use the app to communicate with visitors through the built-in two-way audio feature. This is especially useful if you’re away from home but want to talk to someone at your front door.
  6. Recording and Playback: The app allows you to access recorded video clips from your devices. You can review past events, playback footage, and even save important clips to your device or the cloud (if you have a subscription).
  7. Customization: You can customize settings for each device through the app. This might include adjusting motion detection sensitivity, setting up motion zones, and configuring notification preferences.

The app is free but Ring does offer Subscription Services:

Those plans that provide additional features, such as cloud storage for recorded videos, professional monitoring, and extended warranties. You can manage your subscription and payment details through the app.
