#Pretender January 10

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

For January 2025, several of us are taking part in the 30-Day Song Lyrics Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we utilize a theme and post the song lyrics from a song that connects the two. Today my theme is on fraud, phony, or hypocrite and my song is the PRETENDER.

Jackson Browne is a singer/songwriter who composed a lot of songs including The Pretender. That tune was featured on his 4th album released in 1976 with of the same title as my song. This song is about a man who gives up his dreams and lives a life of routine monotony in order to accumulate money. He is the pretender.

Browne described this song as a conflict many people endure of yearning for an ideal or virtue but eventually compromising. David Crosby and Graham Nash of Crosby, Stills & Nash are part of the harmony vocals.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
