In June 2025, many of us are taking part in the 30-Day “On This Date” Coach4aday Challenge. Each day, the challenge encourages participants to engage in a meaningful or enjoyable activity inspired by a historical event, anniversary, or personal memory tied to that specific date. My anniversary event has to do with a Swimming POOL.

June 2nd is the day the White House got its first indoor swimming pool.

On This Date-30 Day Challenge Guidelines

As with previous challenges, participants are encouraged to adapt the guidelines to fit their own circumstances. If you can, commit to think about the history of each day in June.

  1. Record something about what happened on this date. It can be an event, memory, or anniversary.
  2. Share with a challenge partner if you have one.
  3. Join the conversation by posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge

June 2-Swimming Pool

The next time you see a TV broadcast from the press briefing room at the White House I want you to remember something.

The White House swimming pool was built in 1933 during the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt to provide him with a place for therapeutic exercise to ease the effects of polio. The indoor pool was constructed inside the West Wing, just off the West Colonnade. In 1970, the pool was covered to create space for the press briefing room, though the original pool still exists beneath the floor.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
