#Plans December 8

I have started telling people if you want to become a “world class comedian” just tell the pandemic your PLANS. It will get quite a laugh and chuckle.

Family, business, school, non-profits, government, teams, and churches have all rolled out PLANS on and off since March. Almost all of them have had to be changed or altered. For those leaders making the PLANS and decisions it is frustrating but it should not be demoralizing.

The pandemic has taught us we often have to adapt our PLANS. There is a great life lesson 2020 is reminding us about. Robert Burns a Scottish poet attempted to do that in 1786 with his poem “To A Mouse”.

One line from that Scottish poem has been translated and quoted to illustrate the folly of man’s best laid PLANS. Here is part of that poem translated to Modern English.

Despite the pandemic’s plan wrecking abilities, I have noticed a trend amongst people that some PLANS have worked out well for their overall health. Yes some PLANS made during the 2020 pandemic have been scoffed or ridiculed but many have succeeded.

From taking on 30 Day Challenges, to lifestyle changes, and better eating habits, the people I know are following PLANS to get healthier. I know people that have intentional PLANS about getting outdoors to hike, play golf, run, or bike. For many the transition to working at home and adopting new lifestyle PLANS has resulted in better nights of sleep.

When you have a PLAN to invest in improving yourself that is no joke. Not to counter Robert Burns words of advice but sometimes the best laid PLANS of Mice and Men do work out.
