In October 2025, many of us will be taking part in the 30-Day Kitchen Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we will spotlight an appliance, utensil, or gadget found in a commercial or residential kitchen. The tools and devices used to prepare and cook food is quite extensive and this month we will take a look at both the sublime and ridiculous. My post today is focused on a PEPPER MILL.

The term Pepper Mill and Pepper Grinder can be used interchangeable. It is a device that takes peppercorns and grinds them up into smaller particles. Many households rely on a pepper shaker with pre-ground pepper, but the mill allows for more aroma and flavor than pre-ground pepper. The grinder will permit a cook to adjust the coarseness of the spice depending on the recipe.
Depicted below is the very basic one we have in our kitchen.

Kitchen-30 Day Challenge Guidelines
As with previous challenges, participants are encouraged to adapt the guidelines to fit their own circumstances. If you can, commit to sharing something about an appliance, utensil, or gadget found in a Kitchen during the month of October
- Record something about an item found in a Kitchen. Make sure you include a description and its purpose. Try, if possible, to include a photo.

How to use a Pepper Mill
To use a pepper mill, first fill the chamber with whole peppercorns by unscrewing or lifting off the top. Then, twist or turn the top handle (or crank, depending on the model) to grind the peppercorns, dispensing freshly ground pepper from the bottom. Most mills also feature an adjustable knob or dial to control the grind size—from fine to coarse—so you can tailor it to your recipe.
