#Nicknames July 1

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

For the month of July 2024 several of us are going to take on a 30-Day Nickname Coach4aday Challenge. The simple concept is to share a NICKNAME and tell a little about who it is associated with and why they got tagged with that moniker.

Nicknames are often affectionate or humorous alternative names given to people, reflecting their personality, physical traits, or memorable experiences. While sometimes associated with famous personalities, they are more frequently used for ordinary individuals like most of us. Often, a nickname may be used by just one person to refer to someone in a unique and personal way.

Nickname 30-Day Challenge Guidelines

Like previous challenges there are no hard and fast rules to participate. There are a few suggested guidelines.

  1. Each day in July learn something or just appreciate a nickname associated with someone.
  2. Share that name with others
  3. If so inclined use the hash tag #Coach4adayChallenge on social media platforms

July 1st-Jersey Joe

One name that always stood out to me growing up in the Garden State was JERSEY JOE Walcott.

Walcott’s real name wasn’t actually Joe Walcott; he adopted it from one of his favorite fighters, a welterweight from Barbados. Born Arnold Cream in Pennsauken, New Jersey, he added “Jersey” to his name to distinguish himself after taking on the moniker.

After his boxing career he actually became elected the Sheriff of Camden County in New Jersey and served in that capacity from 1971-1975. Jersey Joe is a good start with Nicknames.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
