This month I am taking on a 30 Day Knot Tying #Coach4adayChallenge. When you begin a new endeavor sometimes friends and family assume you have more expertise than you actually possess. That was the case last week when I got asked about untangling knots in a NECKLACE.

Apparently untangling jewelry must happen a lot because once I got asked it seemed a number of female friends wanted to know how to do it. Patiently I explained I was learning to tie knots not untangle them but I would go research.

Untangling a Necklace

One of the perils of owning a knotted chain NECKLACE is that they are prone to get tangled up. There are techniques on how to get it untangled.

  1. When untangling a chain, it’s best to work on a flat surface. Holding the NECKLACE close to your face often makes the know worse. Spread the chain out on a table or counter top.
  2. Get the correct tool. For untangling a chain it is a thin, straight pin. If you don’t have one of those use a safety pin
  3. Using the pin get inside the knot and see if you can loosen it up. Important tip is to be gentle with the chain work the knot out slowly.
  4. If Steps 1 thru 3 don’t work go to Plan B. Try adding some baby powder. Then go back to using the pin to loosen the knot.
  5. Exercise Patience

Here is a short video on untangling knots in chain NECKLACES.
