Today for Day 23 of the 30-Day Ingredient Coach4aday Challenge looking to discover what are those hard shells on M&M’s made of.

M&M candy has been around since 1941 and can be purchased around the world. If you are into the history of these tiny multicolored chocolate gems go to this link on History.com

Reading that I know that two business partners are behind the name. Forrest Mars Sr. and Bruce Murrie are the two M’s.

Candy Shell

The shells on M&M’s are made from sugar and corn syrup. If you are from Northern NJ, you might know the location of the Warren County town of Hackettstown NJ and the original M&M factory.

No tours are offered in New Jersey but a trip a few years ago to Las Vegas had me stumble on the M&M store. Pretty awesome place. Look at the pictures where every kind of M&M made is available for purchase.
