For September I am participating in the 30-Day Literary Lesson Coach4aday Challenge today the focus is on ME.

The post is about a condition that impacts all types of teams called the “Disease of ME”. That phrase was coined by NBA Coach Pat Riley.

Literary Lesson -“The Winner Within”

Pat Riley authored a book called “The Winner Within: A Life Plan for Team Players

The book was published in 1994 and it had a number of leadership nuggets that still resonate with me today about teams. One concept in particular is a diagnosis about people who are part of any group that put their agenda ahead of the organization. This can happen at home, work, church, civic organization, politics, and of course on athletic teams.

Riley gave these individuals a label. They were suffering from the “Disease of ME”.

How do you spot someone with The Disease of Me?  Riley offers these 7 Danger Signals:

The antidote to this condition is simple but difficult you have to sacrifice. You might define it as delayed gratification. You must give up things that are about ME and focus on things that are better for WE.

We >ME. Pat Riley wrote about it and Jesus modeled it.
