As part of the 30-Day Curiosity Coach4aday Challenge in July, I’ve dedicated today’s focus to the inaugural hotel in the MARRIOTT chain.

The mechanics of this challenge involve presenting a question and subsequently uncovering the optimal response.

July 9th Curiosity Question

What was Marriott’s first property in the hotel chain?

I have been a Marriott Bonvoy Member since the 1980’s. That longevity has earned me a few perks and bonus points. In all of my overnight stays I have never heard what their first property was.

As of May 16, 2023, the United States is home to 5,723 Marriott Group Hotels & Resorts locations. Among them, Texas leads the way with 605 locations, accounting for approximately 11% of all Marriott Group Hotels & Resorts locations in the country.

July 9th Answer on First Marriott Hotel

Marriott’s first hotel property was the Twin Bridges Motor Hotel, which opened in 1957. It was located in Arlington, Virginia, near Washington, D.C. The Twin Bridges Motor Hotel eventually became the first Marriott Hotel when the company expanded and began acquiring other hotels.

More details and a photo at this link.

When it opened it had 365 rooms all double beds and a black & white TV in each room.

This hotel was not built as a Marriott property, but they acquired it as the first hotel. It was demolished in 1990. Today the site of that hotel is home to Long Bridge Park in Arlington VA.
