#Levels December 19

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

I find the work of Jim Collins fascinating because he is curious and data driven. He has authored or co-authored a half dozen books including many books Good to Great and Built to Last

On a personal level I found out last week listening to him on a Tim Ferris podcast that he married Joanne Ernst who won the 1985 Ironman Triathlon. Completing an Ironman Triathlon is a different LEVEL of athlete.

Jim Collins breaks down leadership into Five LEVELS.

Levels of Leadership

He believes that great organizations benefit from what he calls LEVEL 5 Leaders. His research has focused on companies but I suspect that it can apply to organizations, churches, and universities.

A LEVEL 5 leader according to Collins is paradox. They possess great personality humility along with unwavering professional will.

There are 4 LEVELS below five and Collins stresses that you have to possess attributes from each one. Those include being capable, contributing, competent, and effective.

I found a great leadership article written by Jim Collins I encourage you to read and learn more about his views on the LEVELS of leadership.

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
