October 2026 several of us are going to take on the 30-Day Celebrity Alma Mater Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we will identify a celebrity and share where they attended college. For Day 20 it is on JASON ALEXANDER.

Having watched countless episodes of Seinfeld, I never realized that Jason Alexander (Jay Scott Greenspan) grew up in Livingston, New Jersey. The high school he attended, Livingston High School, competed in the now defunct Jersey Hills Conference, the same athletic conference that included Morristown High School when I was a student there.

After graduating from high school in 1977, Alexander enrolled at Boston University but left after three years to pursue an acting career in New York City. His first major acting break came on Broadway in 1981, when he appeared in Stephen Sondheim’s musical Merrily We Roll Along. In 1989, he was cast as George Costanza in Seinfeld—and the rest is television history!

Day 20-Jason Alexander -Boston University

Celebrity: Jason Alexander

Alma Mater: Boston University (1995 Honorary Degree)

Why They’re Famous: Playing George Constanza—the neurotic, insecure, self-centered best friend of Jerry Seinfeld—made him one of television’s most memorable comedic characters.

College Connection: James (Jim) Spruill, an associate professor of theater arts at Boston University played a pivotal role in his career. When Jason Alexander was a sophomore, Spruill advised him to focus on comedy rather than classical dramatic roles such as Hamlet.

Interesting Fact: As a boy, Alexander dreamed of becoming a magician. At age 12, he attended magic camp, but an instructor told him his hands were too small to palm playing cards.

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
