Today for the 30-Day Movie Coach4aday Challenge the daily prompt is about a favorite film HERO.

Spent time reflecting on the numerous choices one could make about movie heroes, but I decided on George Bailey. If the name doesn’t resonate with you, he was the lead character in the 1946 film “It’s a Wonderful Life“.

Playing the role of George is Jimmy Stewart who was an Academy Award Nominee as Best Actor. Stewart would be nominated five times in his career for best actor. He won the award in 1940 with the Philadelphia Story.

George Bailey the Hero

Simply put George is a hero because he lived a life of putting others first.

Examples include:

As a 12-year-old, he jumps into frozen-over pond to save his younger brother from drowning but loses his own hearing as a result of the ice-cold water.

Working in a pharmacy he failed to make a delivery because he realized by mistake the prescription contained poison. He took a beating from the drug store owner and then the owner realized George had saved someone’s life and his career.

He forgoes college to work in the family business after his dad dies. He gives his savings to his brother so he can attend a university.

It continues to put off his dreams and goals to help others.
