In September 2025, many of us will be taking part in the 30-Day Monuments Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we will spotlight one of the nearly 50,000 National Monuments or Memorials across the United States. In addition, we’ll feature a wide range of other tributes—from statues honoring heroes and athletes to memorials recognizing outstanding citizens and many other categories. Today the post is on GEORGE WASHINGTON.

In the September 1st post I shared that a complete list of the nation’s monuments and statues exists in a document called National Monument Audit. That report let us know that George Washington has the second most statues or memorials in the United States. That total is 171. The one I am highlighting is located in Morristown NJ-here is a link.

Monuments-30 Day Challenge Guidelines

As with previous challenges, participants are encouraged to adapt the guidelines to fit their own circumstances. If you can, commit to sharing something about a Monument in September

  1. Record something about a particular US Monument. Make sure you include the location and something about its significance. Try, if possible, to include a photo.
  2. Share with a challenge partner if you have one.
  3. Join the conversation by posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge

September 2-George Washington Equestrian Statue

My hometown of Morristown NJ was the location of two separate winter encampments (Jan – May 1777 & Dec 1779-June 1880) for George Washington’s Continental Army. Philanthropist E. Mabel Clark, daughter of Charles F. Clark (President of the Bradstreet Company), commissioned the statue. She envisioned a tribute to Washington’s importance to Morristown NJ.

The dedication took place on October 19, 1928, deliberately chosen to coincide with the anniversary of British General Cornwallis’s surrender at Yorktown (October 19, 1781).

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
