Do you ever wonder if today is going to be a good day? Sometimes a friend can make it a good day.

Last week I read something that resonated with me about friendship. It spoke about how the relationship begins when something is shared. It pointed out examples of what people share includes cultural, religious, political, geographic, intellectual or work-related interests.

The article also touched on that many friendships wane, for a variety of reasons. Often when the common interest disappears or diminishes the intensity or frequency of the friendship suffers.

In our lives we are likely to see some friendship become good, a few become great, and special ones become ENDURING.

It may sound cruel but most friendships will not be a “ ENDURING. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. I think we need to accept that in our lives we may have a large number of “common interest friends” and only a few ENDURING friends.

Our interests change over the course of our lives, our professions may change, our zip codes may change and each of those factors can hinder a friendship.

True ENDURING friendships are not impossible but they are not easy. They involve work and investment of time. It takes both to solidify a relationship. Each side has to be willing to agree to participate in both the giving and taking.

Not ever friendship can claim to be ENDURING and that is okay. We need all types of friends.

I reflected today on the blessings of ENDURING friendships in my life. It is going to be a good day.
