Throughout December 2024, several of us are taking part in the 30-Day PPT Coach4aday Challenge. PPT is an acronym for People Places or Things. Each day we share our insights, thoughts, or memories about a person (living or dead), a place (we have visited or learned about) or a thing that intrigues us. Today I’m featuring a holiday drink called EGG NOG.
Back in 2018 my friend John Rancke wrote about a Lumberton NC neighbor he had named Ellen McLean who prepared a Holiday elixir to help children go to sleep on Christmas Eve. Here is a link to that post that also captured John’s mom’s recipe for Egg Nog.
People, Places, & Things 30-Day Challenge Guidelines
Like previous challenges there are no hard and fast rules to participate. There are a few suggested guidelines
- Each day in December 2024 write about a Person, Place or Thing-PPT
- Share at least one fact, memory, or quality about your subject choice.
- If so inclined use the hash tag #Coach4adayChallenge on social media platforms
December 20th-Egg Nog
Back in that 2018 post I referenced above John shared his mom’s recipe. I have reprinted it below
A New Jersey Egg Nog recipe
My dad F.D. Kenney loved to make his Egg Nog and it is not for the calorie counting conscious people out there. He loved using New Jersey products to make his version of this holiday drink including a specialty ice cream and a NJ produced brandy.
His recipe included the secret ingredient of Egg Nog Ice Cream-mix all the ingredients listed below in a punch bowl.
F.D. Kenney Recipe
My brother Patrick Kenney still uses a version of the recipe every Christmas
1/2 gallon of Egg Nog Ice Cream-He would get his from Welsh’s Farms in Long Valley NJ-Welsh Farm was created by Jacob Welsh in 1891 was the last dairy in NJ that delivered milk in glass bottles. Sadly, it no longer is in business.
