#Delegate December 26

In 2019 I added a daily habit of reading one chapter of the Bible each morning. I started with the New Testament and have moved on to the Old Testament. It will take most of 2020 to finish reading the Bible cover to cover reading just one chapter a day.

Passage in Exodus

Currently I am reading Exodus and last week I realized that Moses received excellent advice from his father-in-law Jethro on why he should DELEGATE.

Delegate

The story I read is found in Exodus 18: 13-22

If you are a leader of a team read the passage above. If you are overwhelmed with your responsibilities read that passage. If you don’t spend adequate time on your true purpose in life, read this passage.

A summary is below:

Moses had been paid a visit by Jethro while he was in the desert with the Israelites. Jethro observed that everyday Moses listened to all the complaints from the Israelites. The line stretched on forever. Moses was overwhelmed each day.

Jethro told his son-in-law stop doing this task and start spending your time doing what God has entrusted you to do. You should be teaching and modeling how to live a God like life.

DELEGATE to trustworthy leaders the task of listening and resolving the trivial. If it is difficult have them bring it to you. Start spending your time teaching and demonstrating how to live their lives.

We all need a Jethro in our lives.

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
