For December 2023, several of us are participating in the “30-Day ANATOMY Coach4aday Challenge.” My choice today is the GASTROCNEMIUS

During this challenge, the participants select a bone or muscle in the human body, providing details about its location and physiological significance.

How the Challenge Works

  1. Identify one anatomical part of the body.
  2. Describe what its purpose is.
  3. Describe where it is located.

Identify Your Choice

Closing out the last choice of the month with the Gastrocnemius.

Purpose

The gastrocnemius muscle, located in the calf, helps flex the foot and is crucial for activities like walking, running, and jumping. It contributes to the extension of the ankle joint, providing strength and stability during movement.

Location

Here is a look at where it is located in lower leg.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
