For the month of May 2024 several of us are taking on the 30-Day Astronomy Coach4aday Challenge. The simple concept is to learn something about the cosmos each day. For May 29th it is on DARK SKY locations in North Carolina.

It is pretty obvious if you want to have the best views of the night sky you have to avoid light pollution. That is an issue near any cities or towns. In North Carolina there are two certified Dark Sky Parks.

If you want to learn more about dark skies and locations outside of North Carolina check out this link.

Astronomy Challenge Suggested Guidelines

Like previous challenges there are no hard and fast rules to participate. There are a few suggested guidelines.

  1. Each day in May learn something new about our universe either by reading or observation.
  2. Share that knowledge with others
  3. If so inclined use the hash tag #Coach4adayChallenge on social media platforms

May 29th-Dark Sky Parks in North Carolina

There are two places in NC that are certified as Dark Sky Parks. One is at Cape Lookout National Seashore and the other is called PARI located in the Pisgah National Forest. Dark skies allow for ideal astronomical observations.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
