I have been moving furniture non-stop this past week. All in order to get ready for house repairs. I noticed that a small table had brass ends on each of the legs.

I had no idea what that piece of metal was called. I went to research its name and found it is called a SABOT.

A SABOT is a French term for a gilt-bronze shoe at the end of a furniture leg.

I was amazed that a piece of furniture has so many different parts and names.  Many years ago I would watch the Antiques Roadshow and became intrigued by the knowledge of the appraisers on that show.  Two in particular when it came to appraising furniture were Leigh Keno and his twin brother Leslie Keno.

I don’t have the expertise of an appraiser but did find the term SABOT on an Interior Design Glossary.

I also found a vendor named Ferrous Hardware who sells all types of SABOTS.
