June 2026 several of us are going to take on the 30-Day Movie Scene Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we share a YouTube clip from a movie and explain what is intriguing about that particular scene. It is a simple daily activity of sharing a Movie Scene.

My focus today is on the “WASTED LIFE” scene between the characters Rocky Balboa and Mickey Goldmill in the 1976 film Rocky.

This month marks the 78th consecutive month that friends Jeff Neelon and Jaclyn Donovan have taken on some sort of challenge. For June 2026 participants simply commit to sharing one movie scene from a film. Each scene just needs to be accompanied by a simple explanation on what is happening or why it was chosen. Hope you decide to join us or enjoy the clips we share.

Day 3-Wasted Life Scene from Rocky

My chosen scenes today are actually a pair. The first occurs when Mickey, portrayed by Burgess Meredith, confronts Rocky, played by Sylvester Stallone, and bluntly tells him that he has wasted his life and failed to live up to his potential.

The second scene takes place after Rocky is given the opportunity to fight Apollo Creed. Mick comes to Rocky’s apartment hoping Rocky will agree to let him become his manager, but Rocky is angry and deeply hurt that Mick had offered him little support or belief during the previous ten years. Frustrated by the sudden interest now that success is within reach, Rocky unleashes his feelings on Mick in one of the film’s most emotional confrontations.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
