In September 2025, many of us will be taking part in the 30-Day Monuments Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we will spotlight one of the nearly 50,000 National Monuments or Memorials across the United States. In addition, we’ll feature a wide range of other tributes—from statues honoring heroes and athletes to memorials recognizing outstanding citizens and many other categories. Today the post is on the statute of Polish Patriot THADDEUS KOSCIUSZKO located in Lafayette Square in Washington DC.

In reading the National Monument Audit the name Thaddeus Kosciuszko popped up as the 22nd most popular statue in the country. There are 22 monuments, memorials or statues dedicated in his honor across the country. In Lafayette Square just outside the White House in Washington DC sits a statue dedicated in his honor on May 11, 1910.

Monuments-30 Day Challenge Guidelines

As with previous challenges, participants are encouraged to adapt the guidelines to fit their own circumstances. If you can, commit to sharing something about a Monument in September

  1. Record something about a particular US Monument. Make sure you include the location and something about its significance. Try, if possible, to include a photo.
  2. Share with a challenge partner if you have one.
  3. Join the conversation by posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge

September 15-Thaddeus Kosciuszko

Thaddeus Kościuszko, a Polish engineer and military leader, played a vital role in the American Revolutionary War by designing key fortifications that helped secure American victories. His most notable contribution was at West Point, where he created a strong system of defenses that made the Hudson River nearly impossible for the British to control. There is a statue of him at West Point also, but it is undergoing renovations

Here are some other locations that pay tribute the Kosciuszko in addition to West Point and Washington DC

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
