For the month of October 2024 several of us are participating in theĀ 30-Day World Series Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we attempt to learn something about some aspect of the World Series. Today I am focusing on DAY GAMES.

Being of a certain age, I can fondly recall the days when World Series games were always Day Games. At St. Margaret’s Parochial School, (that is now Shepard Prep HS) located on Columbia Street in Morristown NJ someone would always manage to sneak a transistor radio into class, giving us updates. Then, there was the mad dash up Sussex Ave headed to Lake Rd. afterward to catch the final innings.

The sad reality there has not been a day game in the World Series since Game 6 of the 1987 World Series. That game was indoors.

World Series 30-Day Challenge Guidelines

Like previous challenges there are no hard and fast rules to participate. There are a few suggested guidelines

  1. Each day in October 2024 write about the World Series
  2. Share at least one fact about the event or the participants.
  3. If so inclined use the hash tag #Coach4adayChallenge on social media platforms

October 24th-Day Games

Here are some facts about the loss of day games in the World Series.

  1. The first night game took place at Game 4 of the 1971 World Series.
  2. The World Series for 7 decades and almost 400 games all were played during the day until 1971.
  3. After that Game 6 in 1987, just 16 years after the first World Series night game, day games had completely vanished from the Fall Classic.

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
