With the 30 Day Compliment Challenge underway I have noticed that some individuals have a default setting to UNDERMINE any positive compliment that comes there way.

Sometimes when delivering genuine praise you will be met with an UNDERMINING response. Two examples include “Thanks but it is nothing special” or “Lot’s of people can do it better than me”. I truly believe most people are attempting to be humble but they may not realize that is not the vibe they are giving off.

What is more troubling is when you are around people who are socially UNDERMINING everyone around them.

Kristen Wong wrote a great article on how to deal with people that UNDERMINE everything you do. It is titled “How To Deal With People Who UNDERMINE Everything You Do”

This month a pretty large group of people I know are doing the Compliment Challenge. We give a genuine compliment each day to someone. I hope that everyone who reads this will receive some type of praise or compliment this month if not every day. If not from our group then from someone.

When that moment comes don’t try to deflect the compliment just accept it. Saying thank you is a pretty good defense against UNDERMINING the gift of praise.
