For the month of August 2024 several of us are going to take on a 30-Day County Coach4aday Challenge. The simple concept is to share a fact about a county in the US. My focus is going to be on North Carolina, and today I am selecting TYRELL County.

North Carolina has 100 Counties and Tyrell County has the distinction of being the least populous. Many NC Counties were carved out of one county but not Tyrell. Originally part of Bertie, Chowan, Pasquotank, and Currituck Counties, it was established as a separate entity in 1729 to provide wetland residents with easier access to court and a less arduous journey.

Here is a map with county outlined in blue.

According to the US Census Bureau the estimate of residents for Tyrell in 2023 is 3,461. The county seat is Columbia NC

County 30-Day Challenge Guidelines

Like previous challenges there are no hard and fast rules to participate. There are a few suggested guidelines.

  1. Each day in August learn something about a county in the United States
  2. Share that fact along with where it is located with others
  3. If so inclined use the hash tag #Coach4adayChallenge on social media platforms

August 10th-Tyrell County

When a county has a small population, it becomes a challenge to find significant or interesting facts.

Here is what I got.

Rich Wetlands and Wildlife: Tyrrell County is known for its extensive wetlands, which are part of the Albemarle-Pamlico Peninsula. These wetlands are home to a diverse range of wildlife, making the county a popular destination for nature enthusiasts, bird watchers, and hunters.

One person I found of note was Edward Warren

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
